Colour is one of the most important elements in a design. It sets the tone, mood and atmosphere of a room and gives visual expression of one’s personality. Driven by this notion, the German-Danish designer Gesa Hansen developed the colour concept exclusively for her Artis washbasin series for Villeroy & Boch.
"Colour can completely overturn the laws of perspective in a space."
The Artis washbasin becomes an instant statement in any room with its unique and stunning shades, harmoniously integrated into elegant surfaces. It boasts not only the refined TitanCeram material, which contributes to strength and precision, but also its versatility for being the easiest way to introduce colours into the bathroom. Shortly after its birth, the masterpiece was accoladed the German Design Award in 2022.
Drawing inspiration from the spectacular French capital where Gesa Hansen is based, her five colour concepts provide a visual journey through each season in Paris: fresh green symbolises the flourishing spring, soft pink captures the delicate autumnal leaves, bright yellow highlights the radiating summer sunshine, peaceful blue reflects the crisp winter, while neutral black-grey recreates the timeless Parisian fashion over the changing seasons
The five colour concepts were then developed into 15 beautiful shades and were made available for other Villeroy & Boch collections, namely Squaro Edge 12, La Belle and Loop & Friends. A numerous choice of hues allows for full possibilities of combination, creating an enchanting atmosphere that offers new insights and imagination into the bathroom, living area and beyond.
Today, what Gesa Hansen introduced to Villeroy & Boch has continued to inspire the following collections and brought the creative scope of bathroom design to new heights, demonstrating to us that interior innovation goes further than technological advancement, but also manifests itself in colour and overall aesthetics.
